My Brothers & Sisters:
There is a reason why Black people were forbidden to read during slavery. Reading opens the mind and informs the imagination. Slaves that were spiritually stimulated and intellectually energized through reading were hard to control.
We fail to engage so much of our minds and spirits by failing to read. This is the reason why I started the KLS Book Club. It is a forum for the cross fertilization of ideas and ideals derived from an engagement with the written word. Everyone is invited to audit the discussions of the KLS Book Club, but only persons who have actually read the book can contribute substantially and critically to our discussion.
So let me invite you to feed your mind & spirit in the midst of all your busyness by reading a good book. Then join us for our next KLS Book Club discussion... not just as a general listener/commenter, but as an informed participant expressing critical reaction to what you have actually read for yourself. Keep reading family, because a mind really is a terrible thing to waste.
